The dryer may be eating your socks or turning them into extra plastic lids in the kitchen. It is possible, however, that your socks have simply taken a wrong turn in the house and need help finding their way home. Lost socks, like lost mittens, need someone to care about them and to hold out hope that they might one day again be pairs. As you establish organization systems in your home, make a plan for those single socks!
If you have only a few lost soles, you might hang them on clothes pins in your laundry area where you will easily see them when you find their mates. If, however, you have a large family with many rogue socks, you may have to make a more spacious accommodation for those lost soles. You might find that a large clear zip-top bag suits the task well. It allows you to contain the socks that you have confirmed to be matchless at a specific point. Any single socks outside the bag are then potential mates. When you are ready to play the matchmaking game, you can lay out the new participants, spread out the older ones that you have been keeping safe in the bag, and quickly find matches. Any that remain sadly single go back into the bag until you discover another clever hiding place for your rogue socks. There may come a time that you decide that there is no hope of reunion for them, but until then, keep them organized and contained!
